I am very pleased to announce that my short story, "The Wall of Never Doubt," won 10th Place in the Genre Short Story category of the 80th Annual Writer's Digest Short Story Competition! This couldn't have come at a better time, as I've been in one of those long hauls with my writing, lots of rejections, very few acceptances. Persistence is the key, at least in the beginning. So if you are in a long haul with your writing, don't stop, write more, and submit, submit, submit! You can only increase your chances of acceptances and/or wins in doing so.
Also, this story was accepted by Aoife's Kiss and will be in the print June 2012 issue.
Go hooker!... (See this post for explanation)

Wow! Congrats on the terrific win!
ReplyDeleteFABU my friend! I don't know many folks who have placed in the WD contests -- this is huge! Mucho congrats! Peace...
ReplyDeleteMassive congratulations! How any publisher could reject your work is beyond me, so all the better for such an important competition.
ReplyDeleteMucho hugs.

Damn, that hooker puts out good.
ReplyDeleteAmazing news, Erin! It's a really fantastic achievement to place in WD.
Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Erin, that's great news!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteLinda, it does feel FABU, almost not real.
Lily, I'd love for you to read some of my rejection letters...it's like, couldn't you have given me a free noose instead of making me make my own and failing at that too! : )
Angel, Ha! Yes, that one worked hard and made my muse very proud.
Thanks for stopping by Chandara and Ant - cheers with a porter!
Erin, that is great, great news! I hope you're celebrating!
ReplyDeleteExcellent news! Something like this is surely validating after a long haul, esp. when that haul has had some rejection mixed in.
ReplyDeleteCheers to ya!
Yay, yay, yay!
ReplyDeleteGetting chosen by WD is very impressive. Big-time congrats!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lydia, Chris (validation is golden, isn't it?), Rebecca (so glad to see you again), and Sean!
ReplyDeleteDamn, Lady! That's a big victory. How many people were in it this year? I typically imagine thousands. What a thrill to place in that pool.
ReplyDeleteHuge congrats, Erin -- 10th place is awesome!!! You very much deserve it and I'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Yes, persistence is truly key. Also, "Never Doubt" yourself and your abilities. ;)
ReplyDeleteFound you via the Coffin Hop -- can't wait for it to kick off!

So, so happy for you and your hooker, Erin! Such wonderful timing too. The title is mysterious and I can't wait to read the tale in Aoife's Kiss.
ReplyDeleteps. I can totally relate to rejection slips telling you to make a noose and hang yourself on it. If only the noose would hold! Gah.
CONGRATS! WONDERFUL WORK!
